Ecuador Phenom Signs With Women's Soccer

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Head coach of the CSU Bakersfield women's soccer program, Sebastian Vecchio, tapped back into his international recruiting pipeline this spring and found what he was looking for in Karen Flores. The commitment was made official today when CSUB received her signed National Letter of Intent to compete for the Roadrunners next season.

"Karen is an excellent addition to our attack," said Vecchio. "She has the ability to play in the midfield or up front."

An incoming freshman, Flores is coming to Bakersfield by way of Quito, Pichincha, Ecuador where she helped Unidad Educativa Salesiana Cardenal Spellman to a district championship last season.

"Karen's international experience with the Ecuadorian National team and her work rate will have an immediate impact in our program," explained Vecchio. "I have followed her career for a long time and and I am extremely excited she finally sign to be a Runner."

The 5-foot-5 forward has played all over South America with the Ecuador national teams including Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia and Venezuela. Flores and the national team won silver at the Bolivians games in Colombia and bronze at the Odesur games in Bolivia.

A speedy athlete, Flores received recognition nationally for her efforts on the track. She ran and earned a national champion title in the 300- and 600-meter races.
