CSUB Ties Series With 7-3 Win over Holy Cross

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Head coach Jeremey Beard should be pleased with the good streak of performances by the CSU Bakersfield pitching staff. A season-high fourteen strikeouts were thrown in game two of the four-game series against Holy Cross. Ethan Skuija highlighted the feat with nine of his own while Damian Henderson and Tyler Jorgensen led the offense.

Skuija allowed three runs in the first but prevented the Crusaders from anymore in his next five innings pitched. Kellen O'Conner and Andrew Ciandro would keep the streak going into the last three innings.

Over three starts Skuija has now pitched 17 innings and has followed up a CSUB loss with a dominant performance to key a Roadrunner win.

The `Runners gave Skuija enough run support on the offensive end.

Bakersfield scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to match the Crusaders' three runs scored in the top.

Four hits across the third and fourth innings stretched the CSUB lead to 6-3. An additional hit in the sixth that sent to home plate gave Bakersfield the four-run advantage held through the top of the ninth inning.

Henderson was 2-of-3 behind the bat, walked twice, tallied two runs and one RBI while Jorgensen was 2-of-4 at the plate with one one and two RBI.

With tonight's win the `Runners improve to 5-4 on the season, with a chance to inch closer to winning their tenth-straight home series at Hardt Field, Monday. First pitch for tomorrow's match with the Crusaders is set for 6 p.m.
