Vines Highest Drafted `Runner in CSUB Baseball History

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – With the 20th pick in the seventh round of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft, the Atlanta Braves made Roadrunner pitcher Darius Vines the highest drafted student-athlete in CSU Bakersfield's baseball history.

A native of Oxnard, Calif., Vines earned a 5-3 record in 13 starts on the mound this season. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound right-hander posted an ERA of 4.10 while striking out 98 batters in 74.2 innings pitched for the `Runners. A junior who transferred in from Yavapai College in Prescott, Ariz., Vines recorded a 3.8 strikeout to walk ratio as one of CSUB's weekend starters.

As the 217th pick in the draft, Vines became the highest selected `Runner in CSUB history, surpassing fellow pitcher Scott Brattvet (2013, 8th Round, 255th Overall, Cincinnati Reds).

The second day of the 2019 MLB First-Year Draft has concluded with one day remaining. The rest of the `Runners will sit anxiously by their phones on Wednesday, awaiting a potential call from a big-league club.
