CSUB Falls to Future Big West Foe

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield baseball team lost 12-1 to UC Riverside on Tuesday night at Hardt Field.

The Highlanders (9-21) took control from the outset, scoring three runs in the first and second innings and adding two more in third for an 8-0 lead.  CSUB starter Isaiah Moten (1-4) took the loss after throwing the first 1.1 innings and allowing five runs.

Kevin Altamirano pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the `Runners.  With the bases loaded and just one out, the sophomore got an inning ending 6-4-3 groundball double play to escape the jam.

The Roadrunners (15-19) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning.  Ryan Koch led off the inning with a single and Jassen Oliver walked with one out.  Damian Henderson kept the inning going with an infield single and Daniel Carrizosa grounded out to first to score Koch from third.

UC Riverside scored two more runs in the top of the eighth to increase its lead to 12-1 and they kept the `Runners scoreless in the bottom half to end the game.

Will Picketts, Jesse Rowley, Koch, Nick Grossman and Henderson all had singles for the home team.

CSUB will be back in action on Friday when they head to Riverside to begin a three-game Western Athletic Conference series with California Baptist.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
