Joiner Earns First Team All-WAC Honors

DENVER –
The 2019 All-WAC teams have been named, following a vote of the WAC's nine head coaches. Utah Valley's Jake Toolson headlines the awards, earning WAC Player of the Year honors, while UT Rio Grande Valley's Javon Levi was named WAC Defensive Player of the Year. California Baptist's Milan Acquaah was named WAC Newcomer of the Year, Utah Valley's Wyatt Lowell earned WAC Freshman of the Year honors and NM State's Chris Jans repeated as Don Haskins WAC Coach of the Year.
 
Toolson was named WAC Player of the Year after posting five games with 20 or more points in WAC play. In conference games, he ranked third in the WAC in three-point percentage (47.4), free throw percentage (87.3) and three-pointers per game (2.3), fourth in both scoring (16.7) and field goal percentage (54.0) and sixth in minutes per game (33.8). Toolson was named WAC Player of the Week once this season.
 
Levi earned WAC Defensive Player of the Year honors after setting the all-time WAC records for steals in a season in WAC play (54) and steals per game (3.4) in WAC play. He averaged 2.0 more steals per game than any other player in conference games. Levi was twice named WAC Player of the Week this season.
 
Acquaah is the WAC Newcomer of the Year after posting eight games with 20 or more points in league action. In WAC play, he ranked second in the league in scoring (17.3), fourth in free throw percentage (87.2) and three-pointers per game (2.2), sixth in steals (1.4), seventh in minutes per game (33.4), ninth in assists (3.4) and 10th in assist-turnover ratio (0.9). He was a two-time WAC Player of the Week.
 
Lowell earned WAC Freshman of the Year honors after leading all WAC freshmen in scoring (5.4), rebounding (3.0) and steals (0.5) in WAC play. He scored in double-digits in WAC games three times with two starts.
 
Jans repeats as WAC Coach of the Year after leading the Aggies to their fourth WAC regular-season title in the last five years. NM State is currently 27-4 overall and went 15-1 in WAC play. The Aggies have won 16 straight games and are receiving votes in the Associated Press Top 25.
 
Five different schools are represented on the first team. Joining Toolson and Acquaah are NM State's Terrell Brown, Grand Canyon's Michael Finke and CSU Bakersfield's Jarkel Joiner.
 
The All-WAC second teamers are Terrell Brown of Seattle U, Eli Chuha and AJ Harris of NM State, Carlos Johnson of Grand Canyon and UT Rio Grande Valley's Terry Winn III.
 
The All-Defensive Team is made up of Harris, Levi, Seattle U's Myles Carter, Grand Canyon's Gerard Martin and Kansas City's Brandon McKissic.
 
The All-Newcomer Team consists of Acquaah, Brown, Brown, Finke and Johnson.
