Former CSUB Coach Douglass Elected To SCB Hall of Fame

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Small College Basketball (SCB) announced its Hall of Fame class of 2018 on Monday afternoon and former CSU Bakersfield Head Coach Pat Douglass was one of 12 great basketball figures to make the list.

Douglass, a native of Tennessee, began a decade-long tenure at CSUB in the late 1980s. During his run in Bakersfield, Douglass led the Roadrunners to three NCAA Division II National Championships (1993, 1994, 1997). Douglass' squads also finished runner-up in 1990 and were in the Final Four three other times (1987, 1991, 1992).

While compiling a win-loss record of 257-61 (.808), Douglass was named NCAA Division II Coach of the Year three times. Douglass' coaching prowess climaxed during the 1992-93 season when he led the `Runners to their first national title and an undefeated (33-0) year.

His winning ways brought talented athletes to Bakersfield as Douglass recruited and coached `Runners to All-American honors 10 times. One of those `Runners was Kebu Stewart, arguably the most talented basketball player in CSUB's history. Stewart was a second-round selection by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1997 NBA Draft after taking home NCAA Division II Player of the Year.

The `Runners never tallied less than 20 wins during Douglass' stay in the Central Valley and he continued his success at UC Irvine after leaving Bakersfield. Douglass helped turn around the Anteaters' program at the turn of the millennium as UCI earned a 25-5 record in just his fourth year in Southern California.
