Baseball Season Ends with Loss to Sac State

MESA, Ariz. – Facing elimination for the second straight day, the CSU Bakersfield baseball team was knocked out of the 2018 Western Athletic Conference Tournament by Sacramento State as the Hornets claimed a 17-3 victory on Friday afternoon.  The Roadrunners end the season with a 21-36 record.  

The Hornets (32-24) got one on the scoreboard in the first inning and plated five more runs in the second.  CSUB cut into the lead with a RBI infield single by Daniel Carrizosa in the third. 
 

The Hornets added five runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to take control of the game. 

Issac Meza (1-2) lasted just 1.2 innings and gave up the first six runs of the game to take the loss.  In the final game of his career, Andrew Penner was 2-for-4 with a double.  Naithen Dewsnap made the final appearance of his historic career.  The senior got two outs but allowed four runs to come across the plate. 
 
Carrizosa was 2-for-2 in the final game of his freshman season.  Evan Berkey also had a double and will enter next season with a 13-game reached base safely streak. 

NOTES: Andrew Penner closes his career as the career leader in batting average and on-base percentage, while Naithen Dewsnap finishes third in career history in ERA.  Their career and season top-10 rankings are listed below.  Jassen Oliver finishes his career without ever making an error in 57 games in a Roadrunner uniform.  Luis Martinez's five home runs this season rank seventh in single-season history.  Mark Pena also closes his career with 21 stolen bases, which is good for sixth in school history.  Alec Daily finishes his career tied for 10th in career victories with eight and appearances with 44.  Davonte Butler allowed opposing hitters to bat just .258 off of him this season, which is good for eighth in CSUB history.
