ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The CSU Bakersfield men's swimming totaled 191 points to finish in 10th place at the 2018 National Invitational Championship on Saturday.
Kris Rogic swam a time of 1:50.57 in the 200-yard backstroke Saturday morning to qualify for the B finals. The freshman touched the wall first Saturday night with a time of 1:47.27, third all-time in program history.
"Kris committed to the 200 back as a new event tonight and it worked," said Director of Swimming
Chris Hansen. "That was an impressive swim."
Michael Hart finished 18th overall (45.94) in the 100-yard freestyle preliminaries, while teammate
Loren Gillilan placed 15th with a time of 45.53, qualifying for the B finals in the event. Gillilan posted a time of 45.46 in the evening session to finish 6th in his heat.
Jayssie Haynes continued a strong performance in the pool. The sophomore placed 12th in the morning prelims of the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:17.79. The San Jose, Calif. native touched the wall first in the B finals with a time of 2:15.73, second on the all-time top 5 list. In the men's field,
Jake Chir also produced a B final qualifying time, placing 11th (2:03.16) in the morning session. The junior finished 6th with a time of 2:04.17 in the evening session.
In the 200-yard butterfly,
Justice Kramer posted a time of 1:49.12 in the preliminaries to advance to the A finals. The Federal Way, Wash. native finished seventh overall (1:50.01) in the event.
"Coming to this meet worked in our favor and is something we will strive to make every year," said Hansen. "We did better than we expected and all the swimmers gain valuable experience in post conference meets. You have to be determined and dedicated to accomplish what these six swimmers did. I am very proud of them as I know all our swimmers are."
