Multiple Swimmers Crack Top-5 All-Time at UNLV

LAS VEGAS – The CSU Bakersfield men's and women's teams produced some of the best times in school history on the opening night of the UNLV Invite as the Roadrunners broke into the top-five all-time in four events.

Autumn D'Arcy was a woman possessed on Thursday night.  In the first event of the finals, she led off the 200-yard freestyle relay with a 23.28 50-free split to rank fourth in school history.  She propelled the relay of her, Abigail Abshire, Tabea Mose and Maddie Cosgrove to a time of 1:34.34, which is also fourth in CSUB history.  The `Runners also finished fourth in the event.  Later in the evening, D'Arcy swam the second-fastest time in school history in the 200 individual medley.  Her time of 2:02.61 surpasses her teammate Jayssie Haynes and has her just behind Paola Hernandez at 2:02.08.

Individually, the 500 freestyle was the `Runners top event.  Maddie Cosgrove qualified sixth and finished seventh with a time of 5:08.02, while Haynes placed 10th, swimming a 4:56.68 to place her fourth in school history.  Sabrina Zavala added to the haul with a 15th-place performance (5:03.38).

The `Runners also took home a first-place finish in the 400 medley relay.  The foursome of Lea Salcido, Summer D'Arcy, Sydney Garvy and Mia Bailey had a seed time of 4:02.21, but crushed the field, swimming a 3:30.21 and outdistancing their next closest competitor by over 12 seconds.

"Autumn and Jayssie breaking into the top five all-time, mid-season is big time for them," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen.  "Our women's relays where on fire today and were swimming the races smart."

The men's 200 free relay of Kris Rogic, Loren Gillilan, Richie Campbell and Noah Hickman narrowly missed out on a top-five all-time time of their own to start the finals.  The group touched the wall in 1:22.20 to finish fifth, just 1.04 seconds off the fifth-best time in the history of CSUB.

Kramer took eighth in the 200 IM (1:54.82), while Rogic placed 12th despite swimming a 1:53.60.

In the 50 free, Campbell came through with a 20.94 in the finals to take 13th, after nearly setting a career-best in the prelims with a 20.83.  Noah Hickman also placed 19th in the event after swimming a 20.86 in the prelims and a 20.98 in the finals.

The 400 medley relay team of Rogic, Jake Chir, Gillilan and Ryan Brimer also had a solid showing, placing fifth with a time of 3:19.17.

"Today was about Justice Kramer. Kris Rogic, Noah Hickman and Richie Campbell," said Hansen.  "These boys came to race and it showed in the results.  The men have to swim a little more aggressively tomorrow. We did ok today but I think we are better then we swam."

Today was the first day of a three-day meet at UNLV.  Action will start again tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. and the finals will begin at 5:00 p.m.
