Men’s Soccer Team Signs Four to NLIs

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield men's soccer coach Richie Grant and assistant coaches James Garces and Chris McGaughey have inked four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period.

Three of the four signings are from the state of California including local product Alexis Rivas of Bakersfield South High School.  Jovanni Molina hails from Ontario and Orlando Basurto is a Roseville native.

The Roadrunners also dipped into the Sunshine State, locking in Harrison Du Parcq from St. Augustine, Fla.

"I'm really pleased with the early signing day," said CSUB head coach Richie Grant.  "These four guys we had here on campus when we played Pacific and they are players we targeted for some time."

Rivas scored 23 goals and had 17 assists as a junior at Bakersfield South High School and led the Rebels to Valley and State titles.  The forward is a three-time all-conference selection and earned team MVP honors last spring.  The local recruit verbally committed to CSUB over a year ago and has great technique around the box.  His feisty mentality is something the team will benefit from next season.

Molina hails from Alta Loma High School and looks to settle into the center of CSUB's midfield.  Molina also competes for the Arsenal Soccer Club of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.  He will bring a lot of athleticism to the pitch and brings an attacking style to the middle of the field.

Basurto was the Defensive Player of the Year in the Pioneer Valley League last season at Lincoln High School and has led the Zebras to back-to-back San Joaquin Section titles. He also plays for the Placer Soccer Club and was described by Grant as a competitive 1-vs.-1 defender and someone that will make the `Runners tougher right away.

Du Parcq scored 21 goals from the midfield last season at Nease High School in Ponte Vedra, Fla. and was born in Liverpool, England.  His family is no stranger to Division I soccer as his father, Stephen Ashcroft, played for Hofstra University.  Du Parcq also plays for the

Jacksonville Armada of the USSDA and scores special goals from the center midfield.  Grant thinks his game is on the rise and he's growing into his best football this spring.
