Haynes Wins 200 Breast at Roadrunner Invite

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield swimmer Jayssie Haynes won the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday at the Roadrunner Invite to propel CSUB to a third-place finish.  The men's team also finished third on Saturday at the Hillman Aquatics Center.

"We beat San Jose State today for the first time ever," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen.  "We're tying a lot of things together for the women right now."

Haynes touched the wall in 2:20.47 to win the 200 breast on Saturday morning.  CSUB's Isabella Magalong took seventh in the event (2:26.14) as she had another impressive day in her home pool.  Haynes also took fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:08.17), while Magalong added an eighth-place finish (2:11.33).

Sabrina Zavala added two third-place efforts on Saturday, touching the wall in 10:30.31 in the 1,000-yard freestyle and in 5:06.67 in the 500 free.  Freshman Autumn D'Arcy continued her impressive first campaign for the `Runners as she finished sixth in the 200 free (1:55.24) and second in the 200 IM (2:06.62).

Sophomore Loren Gillilan had two top-five finishes today as he took fifth in the 200 free (1:42.22) and fourth in the 100 free (46.30).  Fellow second-year swimmer Kris Rogic placed third in the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.93) and seventh in the 200 butterfly (1:54.99).  Rogic and Gillilan also teamed up with Noah Hickman and Richie Campbell to take third in the 400 free relay (3:05.53)

"Richie Campbell and Noah Hickman are continually surprising me this year as is Michael Hart," said Hansen.  "Ryan Brimer is also doing great."

Individually, Campbell placed second in the 50 free (20.96), while Hickman took sixth in the event (21.41).  Brimer had two top-10 finishes on the day.  He placed eighth in the 200 free (1:43.99) and came in 10th in the 200 back (1:57.28).

Sophomore Benji Duenas continued an impressive weekend with a third-place finish in the 500 free (4:40.09) and he touched the wall in sixth in the 200 fly (1:53.87).

The Roadrunners will remain at home next Saturday when they host California Baptist at 12:00 p.m. at the Hillman Aquatics Center.
