Rogic Wins 50 Back at CSUB Sprint Classic

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men's and women's swimming and diving programs hosted their biggest meet in Director of Swimming Chris Hansen's tenure on Friday afternoon as the Roadrunners welcomed Fresno State, UC Santa Barbara, San Jose State and Hawaii to the John S. Hillman Memorial Aquatic Center.  The `Runner performances were highlighted by sophomore Kris Rogic's victory in the 50-yard backstroke (22.99).

Rogic was the only first-place finish on the day for the Roadrunners.  The men sit in third out of three teams after the first day of competition.  The sophomore also swam the lead leg of the `Runners second place 800 freestyle relay squad (6:53.21) that included Shane Triplett, Ryan Brimer and Owen Van Krimpen.  He also placed sixth in the 400 individual medley (4:04.91). 

 
Rogic's classmate Benji Duenas also had an impressive afternoon in his home pool, finishing fourth in the 100 IM (52.93) and fifth in the 400 IM (4:04.37).  Another sophomore Loren Gillilan claimed fourth place in the 50 butterfly (22.42) and the 50 free (20.93), while also swimming the lead leg on CSUB's third place 200 free relay (1:24.70).

Seniors Justice Kramer and Jake Chir also aided the strong CSUB effort on Friday.  Kramer began his day with a 23.25 in the 50 fly and ended with an eighth-place finish in the 100 IM (53.31).  Chir took second in the 50 breaststroke (25.57) halfway through the meet and touched the wall in fifth in the 100 IM (53.18) to finish the day. 

Jayssie Haynes and Autumn D'Arcy continued their hot start to the 2018-19 season on Friday as they both recorded second place finishes.  Haynes took second in the 400 IM (4:27.62), while D'Arcy finished as the runner-up in the 50 fly (25.09).  The duo also teamed up with Maddie Cosgrove and Alisa Cooke to finish third in the 800 free relay (7:38.66).  D'Arcy also finished sixth in the 50 free (24.23). 

Lucy Peltz and Isabella Magalong were also highlighted by Hansen after the meet.  Peltz took 16th in the 400 IM (4:41.02) while Magalong finished ninth (4:36.03).

The CSUB women finished Friday in fifth place out of five teams at the event.

CSUB will be back at home tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. for the Roadrunner Invite.
