BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Coming off a big road conference win on Saturday at Chicago State, the CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team will look to make it two in a row in the Western Athletic Conference at Seattle U on Friday, Jan. 26.
We all know the old adage, one game at a time, but the schedule does set up for the Roadrunners to continue their winning ways in the WAC. A win in Seattle would put the `Runners at 2-4 in the WAC and then CSUB has two home games in the Icardo Center in Bakersfield the following week. And as good as CSUB has been at home since Head Men's Basketball Coach
Rod Barnes took the reigns, at the end of the season, you may look back on that Chicago State victory as the win that jump started the `Runners season.
The `Runners have swept the season series with SU the last two years and have not lost to the Redhawks since Feb. 28, 2015.
Seattle U enters the game with a 14-8 record overall, 3-2 in the WAC and most recently had a very impressive conference road win at UTRGV on Saturday. Slovenian sophomore guard Matej Kavas leads SU in scoring at 17.4 points a game and also have four other players averaging double digits in scoring.
CSUB Assistant Men's Basketball Coach
Jeff Conarroe was asked what he sees in Seattle U. "Seattle U has a really efficient basketball team, from the three and the two. They have a 7' 3" guy that really dominates the middle. They really attack the basket and we're really going to have to defend to keep them from having open looks."
The `Runners have four players averaging ten points or more a game and are led by the fantastic freshman
Jarkel Joiner's 11.2 a game. It seems senior guard
Brent Wrapp sets some type of new record each and every game he plays, most recently tying for fourth all time in games played in CSUB history. Most importantly to Wrapp and his teammates, the senior floor general is healthy and averaging more than five assists a game.
Conarroe talked about the `Runners and he said, "we are getting more consistent on both sides of the ball. Our goal is to be playing our best basketball going into the WAC tournament and you can start to see we are trending in that direction." Coach went on to add, "the guys have really bought in to what we need to do to win basketball games."
Tipoff in Seattle is scheduled for 7 p.m. and can be watched live on the WAC Digital Network, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV and Roku.
