`Runners Relays Make Significant Strides For The Season On Day 1 Of UNLV Invite

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – CSU Bakersfield's men's swimming team kicked off the UNLV Invitational Thursday with impressive finishes from the relay performances tonight in the 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay. This is the first time the Roadrunners are competing in the invitational hosted by UNLV, which features some of the top swimming teams on the West Coast.

"School records and a third all-time top time is exactly how we wanted to start this meet. We are going to get better as this meet goes," said Chris Hansen, CSUB's Director of Swimming. Men's swimming competed in two relays tonight and the lone `Runner sophomore Noah Hultner competed in the finals for the 500 freestyle.

The `Runners men's relay were led by freshman Kris Rogic. Coach Hansen went on to comment on the first relay of the night, the 200 free, "Kris Rogic led off the 200-free relay in our best 50 free time of the year with a 20.99. Loren Gillilan, Richie Campbell and Joe Cobarrubias were also part of the relay."

Coach Hansen went on to compliment more his 200 free relay squad, "Justice Kramer, Kris Rogic and Lovre Soric all represented CSUB great tonight in the 200 IM. These three haven't had a full rest due to Nationals so I'm pumped about their times. Lovre finished 8th with a great time for November."

Not only did Rogic lead in the 200 free, but he also led in the 400 medley and broke the CSUB's men's All-Time Top 5 Times for the 100 back with a time of 48.75 beating the previous record by two hundredths of a second (48.77) in 2012. "Kris lead off the 100 back. This a giant swim because he isn't rested or shaved. The entire relay was good tonight," said Hansen.

Hultner was was the only male to represent CSUB in the 500-free tonight. The California native, swam his season best of 4:40.10 during prelims this morning.

CSU Bakersfield and the rest of the highly-competitive field will return to action Friday morning. Day 2 of the UNLV Invitational. Prelims will begin in the morning at 9:30 a.m. and finals for the day to commence at 5 p.m.
