BAKERSFIELD, CA – Momentum. It is a funny thing. It can be a good thing, but it can also be a bad thing. But when Big MO is on your side in a positive way, it can be scary good. After an opening Western Athletic Conference loss to No. 20 Seattle U on Sept. 29, oh my how things have changed for the CSU Bakersfield men's soccer team.
The `Runners have reeled off three straight wins and they weren't just wins. They were dramatic. They were possibly season changing. CSUB defeated Utah Valley 1-0, GCU 3-2 in OT and UNLV 1-0 all in the span of eight days to go from a record of 2-6 to 5-6 and 3-1 in the WAC. Just for the record, the `Runners three WAC wins came against teams all voted to finish in the top 5 of the WAC and UNLV was voted to win the WAC.
Also, `Runners across all sports are somehow, someway becoming #WACtopPlay of the Week nominees almost weekly. Well, this week, "The Captain"
Jamie Carey-Morrell should have wrapped up the top spot before the WAC even announced the nominees. Carey-Morrell scored on a bicycle kick late in the second half of the GCU victory to send it to overtime. Easily the goal of the season, which led to
Sebastian Mentel's overtime heroics.
The `Runners will hit the road again on Thursday, Oct. 12 to play at Houston Baptist. The Huskies, led by Head Coach Ryan Pratt, enter the game at 4-5 and 1-3 in WAC play. HBU has four players tied with 2 goals each to lead the team and are led in points by Sophomore Dominick Faletto's seven points.
After the game against Houston Baptist, CSUB Head Coach
Richie Grant's squad will get a much needed eight day break, before heading back to Texas to play UTRGV on Oct. 20 and UIW on Oct. 22.
