BAKERSFELD, Calif.—The Icardo Center will host the rematch between CSU Bakersfield men's basketball and Grand Canyon University on Saturday Feb. 27 at 7 P.M. Grand Canyon won the first matchup in Phoenix 70-64 back on Jan. 28.
The Antelopes hold the second spot (10-2) in Western Athletic Conference play with five consecutive wins, while the Roadrunners find themselves on the third spot with a 9-3 WAC play. GCU is ineligible for the WAC Tournament as they continue their NCAA Division I reclassification meaning the Roadrunners have already clinched the second seed in the tournament which begins March 10 at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
Coming off of two road games, a 63-55 loss at New Mexico State and a 70-57 win at the University of Texas Rio Grande, the 'Runners will try to continue their home winning streak by playing the strong defense that characterizes them. The 'Runners hold the first spot on scoring defense in the WAC with an average of 64.1, while the 'Lopes hold the first spot in scoring offense with an average of 77.5 with Joshua Braun as their leading scorer with an average of 17.1.
'Runners head coach Rod Barnes says “It should be a great game against two great teams.”
“We got our work cut out for the game, we got to be fighting and competing for the championship…You want to play against the best, you want to be playing for something, we want to be playing in front of a packed house.”
Less than 300 tickets remain for Saturday night's game. Fans are encouraged to buy in advance of game time at the Icardo Center box office which will open at 9 A.M. on Saturday.
The game is schedule for 7 p.m. and it will be broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network as the 'Men's Basketball Game of the Week' and on Newstalk 1180 and 96.1 FM KERN.
