Roadrunners Host Texas-Pan American This Weekend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield (17-14-1, 5-3-1 WAC) looks to extended its four-game winning streak this weekend as the Roadrunners host Texas-Pan American.

The series begins when UTPA's Blake English (R, 2-3, 3.38 ERA) matches up against Hayden Carter (3-3, 3.40 ERA, Sr., San Diego, Calif., Vista HS). The Broncs will send Justin Quinonez (R, 2-2, 3.71 ERA) out to face James Barragan (3-3, 2.23 ERA, Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) on Saturday at 6 p.m.  Sunday's noon finale should see UTPA's Alex Henson (L, 0-0, 9.00 ERA) pitching against Nick Rogowski (3-2, 3.94, Sr., Woodbridge, Va., Cypress College).

On Friday, the annual Greek games on the CSUB campus will conclude at Hardt Field. The Roadrunners will also celebrate national Student-Athlete Day. On Saturday fans can play Rowdy's Runner bingo with the first 10 winners receiving one ticket to the CSUB Spring BBQ. On Sunday fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs with the first 50 kids (8th grade and under) receiving a baseball mini helmet ice cream sundae in the 6th inning.

The Broncs broke a seven-game losing streak on Tuesday when UTPA split a doubleheader with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Texas-Pan American is 12-19, 0-9 in WAC play. Logan Landon leads the team and the WAC in hitting (.434). Landon also leads UTPA in home runs (6), and RBI's (31). He has a .737 slugging percentage and .508 on-base percentage this season.

CSUB won their four games last week by a combined score of 41-2. The Roadrunners hit .329 for the week compared to the opponents .181 average. Barragan was named Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, for Mar. 30-Apr. 5 for his performance last week. He tied the Roadrunners' school record for most strikeouts in a game with 13 as CSU Bakersfield defeated North Dakota, 12-1, Apr. 2.  He scattered five hits over nine innings to earn the complete game win, allowing just one run with three walks against 35 batters faced. Max Carter (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) led the offense as he hit .545 with five RBI's.
