BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The CSU Bakersfield baseball team (20-14-1, 8-3-1 WAC) looks to extend its seven-game winning streak at defending Western Athletic Conference champion Sacramento State this weekend.
The series begins on Friday at 3 p.m. when Sac State sends preseason WAC Pitcher of the Year Brennan Leltao (3-3, 2.88 ERA) to the hill to face Hayden Carter (4-3, 3.05 ERA). Saturday's first pitch is set for 1 p.m. The Hornets will send preseason All-Conference selection Sam Long (L, 5-2, 3.19 ERA) out to face James Barragan (4-3, 2.32 ERA) on Saturday. Sunday's noon finale should see Sac State's Justin Dillon (R, 4-3, 3.19 ERA) pitching against Nick Rogowski (3-2, 3.68).
The Roadrunner winning streak starts the week as the seventh longest in Division I. CSU Bakersfield's Ryan Grotjohn and Chance Gusbeth are tied with Sacramento State's Scotty Burcham for fifth in Division I in triples as the trio has each posted five.
CSUB leads the all-time series against Sacramento State 7-5. The teams played five times last season with the Hornets winning three times.
The Hornets are 19-15, 7-5 in WAC play. Sac State broke a five-game losing streak with a 13-2 victory at Utah Valley Sunday afternoon. Nathan Lukes is sixth in the WAC in hitting (.374). Lukes has hit two home runs and driven in 18 runs. Lukes has walked 21 times and scored 23 runs.
