BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The CSU Bakersfield baseball team continues a busy month of March with four games this week.
The Roadrunners begin the week Tuesday in Northridge when CSUB travels to CSUN. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. The Matadors defeated the Roadrunners 5-0 Mar. 10 in Bakersfield. CSUN leads the all-time series against CSUB 10-8.
The Matadors have won six straight and seven of their last eight games since playing CSUB Mar. 10. CSUN improved to 19-5 after sweeping a four-game series against Dartmouth last weekend. Chester Pak leads the team in hitting (.329), home runs (4), and RBI's (17). Angel Rodriguez (R, 1-0, 2.31 ERA) is scheduled to go for CSUN. The Roadrunners will send AJ Monarrez (R, 0-0, 4.00 ERA).
CSUB returns home for the first time in 17 days on Friday when the 'Runners open a three-game Western Athletic Conference series against Utah Valley. Friday and Saturday's games will begin at 6 p.m. with Sunday's series finale getting underway at 12 p.m.
Utah Valley won three of four games against the Roadrunners last season in the first meetings between the two schools. The Wolverines dropped 2-of-3 games to Seattle U in the WAC opener for both schools last weekend. UVU is 5-18 overall. Mark Krueger leads the team in hitting (.288). Krueger, Mark Andrus, and Tate Harding all have 13 RBI's to pace the team.
Utah Valley has not set their rotation for the weekend. Hayden Carter (R, 3-2, 3.64 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for CSUB on Friday night. On Saturday, James Barragan (R, 1-3, 2.73 ERA) goes for the Roadrunners. Nick Rogowski (R, 2-2, 4.89 ERA) is set for Sunday for CSUB.
Friday's game can be heard on KERN Radio 1180 AM/96.1 FM and it is KGET night at Hardt Field. Saturday's game will feature Rowdy's 'Runner Bingo and can be heard on 1230 ESPN Radio. Sunday's game will feature $1 hot dogs and it is also Sundae Funday. The first 50 kids 8th grade and under receive a baseball mini helmet sundae which is redeemable in the sixth inning.
