DENVER, Colo.,- Aly Ahmed (Jr., Alexandria, Egypt, Midland CC) leads the CSUB selections onto the All-Conference teams announced Tuesday by the Western Athletic Conference and selected by the votes of eight conference head coaches.
Ahmed was the Roadrunners lone selection to the First-Team All-Conference marking the first time a 'Runner has been named to the squad. This was the second season for the 'Runners playing in the WAC. Joining Ahmed and receiving all-conference honors was Kevin Mays (Jr., Queens, N.Y., Odessa CC) who led the WAC in rebounding this season and earned a spot on the All-Defensive team.
Ahmed was the Roadrunners' leading scorer this season averaging 14 ppg and shooting 50% from the field. The Alexandria, Egypt native averaged 13 points and eight rebounds per game in WAC contests while also finishing in the top-five in conference games for rebounding (7.9 per game), total offensive rebounds (37) and total defensive rebounds (66).
Ahmed recorded eight double-doubles this season capping off the regular season with 17 points and 10 rebounds at Utah Valley Saturday night. Ahmed was a WAC All-Defensive team selection a year ago.
Mays, playing in his first season in Bakersfield led the WAC in overall rebounding this season averaging eight rebounds per contest. In WAC games, Mays was fourth in the conference in rebounding (7.6 per game), seventh in steals with 17, fifth in total defensive rebounds (65) and third in total offensive rebounds (42). Mays was also named to the All-Conference third team.
Missouri-Kansas City's Martez Harrison headlines the awards, earning WAC Player of the Year honors, while New Mexico State's Pascal Siakam was named WAC Freshman of the Year and New Mexico State's Marvin Menzies earned Don Haskins WAC Coach of the Year honors.
