BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The CSU Bakersfield baseball team returns to Hardt Field this weekend when the Roadrunners host Northern Kentucky in a four-game series.
The weekend opens with a doubleheader that gets underway at 2 p.m. on Friday. In game one, NKU lefty Matt Jefferson (0-1, 8.10 ERA) faces CSUB's Hayden Carter (0-1, 2.57 ERA). The second game of the doubleheader will begin 45 minutes upon the conclusion of the opener. In game two, Norse right-hander Jake Shaw (0-1, 7.20 ERA) will go up against CSUB's James Barragan (0-1, 0.00 ERA).
Saturday's game three will begin at 12:30 p.m. The probable starters are NKU's Wendell Wright (0-0, 0.00 ERA) and Steven Gee (0-1, 1.69 ERA). The series concludes Sunday at 12 p.m. with Norse left-hander Trey Ganns (0-0, 0.00 ERA) pitching against Nick Rogowski (0-1, 10.38 ERA).
The series will be a part of the CSU Bakersfield homecoming festivities this weekend. On Saturday, fans at Hardt Field will be able to part in Rowdy's Runner Bingo while on Sunday, fans can buy $1 hot dogs courtesy of CSUB Campus Dining. The first 50 kids, 8th grade and under will receive a mini baseball helmet sundae.
This is the first meeting between CSU Bakersfield and Northern Kentucky in baseball. This will be the first time that CSUB will face a team from the Atlantic Sun Conference in the history of the program.
The Norse opened the 2015 season at Campbell last weekend, dropping 2-of-3 to the Camels. Cole Bauml hit .545 (6-of-11) with four doubles and three RBI's. Bauml also stole two bases during the series.
The Roadrunners were swept by Creighton last weekend, losing 5-0 on Friday, 5-1 on Saturday, and 10-4 on Sunday. Ryan Grotjohn led the 'Runners by hitting .571 over the weekend. Grotjohn posted a .714 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage against the Bluejays.
