VERMILLION, S.D.- The CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners (4-3) will play the first of four games in a span of seven days as they head take on the South Dakota Coyotes (6-3) Saturday evening from the Dakota Dome in Vermillion, S.D.
It will be the second meeting in this series as the Coyotes managed a 68-66 win in Bakersfield a season ago. CSUB is in search of their first road win of the season following another 72-55 home win over Northern Arizona on Saturday night.
The Coyotes have won six straight including recent wins at Minnesota in double overtime where they snapped the Gophers' 47 game-non-conference-home winning streak last week. They also defeated fellow Western Athletic Conference member MIssouri-Kansas City 79-70 on Tuesday night for their second home win of the season.
South Dakota is a guard-heavy team with a balanced scoring effort led by senior guards Tre Burnett and Casey Kasperbauer's 13 points per game. Junior guard Shy McCllelan is also adding 12 per contest for the Coyotes who are shooting 48% from the field this season.
The Roadrunners enter being led by redshirt freshman guard Damiyne Durham who is averaging 17 points per game for CSUB who is also getting 15 per contest from senior forward Kevin Mays. Mays scored a career-high 29 points earlier this season and nearly eclipsed that effort with 24 points and 14 rebounds Saturday against Northern Arizona. Mays will be a key factor in CSUB's post presence and matchups at the forward position where redshirt junior forward Matt Smith is expected to see his first action of the season following an early-season injury.
Saturday's tip off from the Dakota Dome is scheduled for 3:30 P.M. PT and is available on ESPN3.com and the Watch ESPN app. The game will also be carried on Newstalk 1180 and 96.1 FM KERN with pregame coverage beginning at 3 P.M. (PT).
The 'Runners will have a quick turnaround as they return to Bakersfield on Monday hosting Dartmouth (3-3) at the Icardo Center. That game is scheduled to tip at 7 P.M. on Monday night.
