BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- Paced by 27 points from redshirt freshman Damiyne Durham, the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners showcased their 2015-16 squad with a convincing 108-63 exhibition win over Bristol University Saturday night at the Icardo Center.
The Roadrunners had six players scoring in double figures as preseason All-WAC selection Aly Ahmed added 17 points while fellow returners Kevin Mays and Jaylin Airington added 16 apiece for Bakersfield. Junior-transfer point guard Dedrick Basile was one-assists shy of a triple-double scoring 13 points while dishing out nine assists and grabbing 10 rebounds.
The Roadrunners trailed briefly 6-3 at the 17:55 mark of the first half before they rattled off an 11-0 run to take control for good. The Roadrunners extended that lead to as many as 16 in the half and led 50-35 at the break.
Durham was 4-of-6 from three-point range in the second half while shooting 7-of-13 from the game from beyond-the-arc and 10-of-19 from the field. Ahmed and Mays were both 6-of-9 from the field while Airington was 7-of-11 from the field while adding eight assists.
Bakersfield's offense shot for over 50% in each half including an astounding 20-of-31 (64%) in the second half and a combined 38-of-64 (59%) from the field in the exhibition win. The Roadrunners also spread the ball around with 31 assists in the game.
CSUB's defense forced 22 turnovers by the Bears and in turn scored 34 points. The 'Runners also outrebounded Bristol 45 to 26 led by 10 from Basile and 9 from another newcomer, Justin Hollins.
