BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—No. 1 Penn State defeated CSU Bakersfield 39-3 in front of a crowd of 1,846 Friday night in the Icardo Center.

In the 165-pound match, Shakur Rasheed defeated No.13 Adam Fierro 6-0. 174 pounds would be the only match pitting two wrestlers ranked in the Intermat Top 20 poll. No. 9 Bo Nickal pinned No. 16 Bryce Hammond at the 1:54 mark of the first period.
No. 14 Matt McCutcheon handed Jesus Ambriz a 12-3 loss in the 184-pound bout. No. 1 Morgan McIntosh defeated Reuben Franklin 13-5 at 197 pounds before Matt Williams would earn the lone team points for the Roadrunners at heavyweight. Williams shut out Jan Johnson 4-0. No. 4 Nico Megaludis ended the night with a 23-10 victory over Sergio Mendez at 125 pounds.
“Position in wrestling is everything,” said CSUB head coach Mike Mendoza. “Position adds to strength more than anything, especially at the lower weights. When you get outwrestled it takes a lot more energy to defend your opponent while trying to get back on offense. Penn State is a tough team that did a really good job against us tonight.”
The 1,846 fans coming through the Icardo Center doors is the most for CSUB since the entire athletic department transitioned to Division I in 2006. The Roadrunners return to the mats Dec. 4-5 at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. The next home CSUB dual is Jan. 8 when the Roadrunners host Cal Poly in Pac-12 action Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at Vallitix.com.
