DENVER -- CSU Bakersfield's Haley Vicente and Seattle U's Kelly Beck have been named Western Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Oct. 5-11.
Vicente, a freshman from Las Vegas, Nev. (Arbor View HS), scored five goals and totaled 10 points in two games. She tied a WAC record for the most goals in a conference game with four vs. Chicago State, doing all of her damage in just 28 minutes of action. The four goals and eight points both tied CSUB all-time school records, and are tied for the top marks in the WAC this season. Vicente had not scored a goal in her career until the first match of the week, but opened her account against UMKC with a goal off a corner kick, and is now second on the 'Runners in goals scored this season.
With Vicente's honor on Monday morning, the Roadrunners have now won three out of the last four WAC Offensive Player of the Week awards. Aminah Settles was honored on Oct. 5 while Sabrina Delgado kicked off the awards on Sept. 21. All three 'Runners are in their freshmen seasons.
Other offensive nominees included: Grand Canyon freshman forward Deseree Doty tied a WAC record for most goals in a conference game with four vs. Chicago State … Missouri-Kansas City freshman forward Reighan Childers assisted on the game-winning goal vs. CSU Bakersfield and scored a goal against Grand Canyon … Seattle U freshman forward Karli White scored six points on the week, highlighted by a two goal, five point effort in the Redhawks' victory over NM State … Utah Valley freshman forward Breanna McCarter scored the game-winning goal against UMKC and added two assists vs. NM State.
