BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-- A busy January will continue for the Roadrunner swimming and diving teams on Saturday as the squads will head to Los Angeles to compete. Jan. 10 will see the 'Runner men taking on UC San Diego while the women will compete in a tri meet against UCSD and Loyola Marymount.
“UCSD is never an easy team to beat!” said Chris Hansen, CSUB's Director of Swimming. “Both our men and women will need to fight hard for a win. It can be done. The women will all need to show up. We keep talking about how we need to have all 17 swimmers and divers show up at the same time. This is one of those meets. The men will not only rely on Mitchell Huxhold, but the divers will also play a big part. This will be a close one. LMU is not as tough as UCSD; however, they just had a great A3 and we shouldn't forget about them.”
On the women's side, UC San Diego and CSUB suffered similar fates as both teams fell to San José State earlier in their respective seasons. LMU has not competed since the AT&T Winter Nationals at the beginning of December while all three women's teams were present at the A3 Performance Invitational in November. At the A3 Invite, UCSD finished sixth (543) and the 'Runners were 11th (326), just one spot ahead of LMU (298).
For the men, both UCSD and CSUB were also at the A3 Invite where the powerful Tritons finished second with 1246.5 team points. The 'Runners swam well in that meet, finishing fourth with 729 points.
The meet with begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Burns Aquatics Center on the Loyola Marymount Campus. Results and full recaps of the meets will be available here shortly after the conclusion of the meet.
