Box Score GREELEY, Colo.--Chance Gusbeth (So., Lancaster, Calif., Desert Christian HS) and Soloman Williams (Jr., Long Beach, Calif., Golden West College) and became the sixth and seventh Bakersfield baseball players to hit two home runs in a game as the Roadrunners defeated Northern Colorado 19-7 Saturday afternoon.
Williams led off the second with a blast to center before following it up with shot to left center in the fifth. Williams added an RBI single in the top of the sixth. The 6-7 first baseman ended the day a triple away from hitting for the cycle. He was 4-for-5 and had two runs scored. Williams reset the 'Runner record for most total bases in a game with 11 (old record was 10 set by Cael Brockmeyer Mar. 9, 2013).
Gusbeth hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh and matched the feat with a three-run homer in the top of the eighth. Gusbeth drove in seven runs, breaking Martin Medina's old mark of six which was set Mar. 23, 2009. Gusbeth ended the day 4-for-6 with three runs scored.
Jordie Hein (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz., Chapparal HS) tied Ryan McIntyre's 2009 school record with his 16th stolen base (16-of-17 on the year) in the top of the seventh. Hein drove in four runs, going 2-for-5 from the leadoff spot.
Bakersfield (19-24, 11-9 WAC) scored at least one run between the second and seventh innings with a five-run outburst coming in both the top of the seventh and the top of the eighth. The 'Runner 6-9 hitters; Garrett Pierce (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Centennial HS), David Metzgar (Fr., Lancaster, Calif., Paraclete HS), Ross Hough (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Central Arizona College), and Oscar Sanay (Sr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita VIsta HS) each posted at least two hits. Sanay went 3-for-4 with four runs scored. Hough and Sanay both registered two RBI's.
Each of the nine CSUB starting position players had at least one hit with six of the nine starters posting at least one RBI. All 19 runs were earned and an RBI associated with them. The 19 RBI's is a new school record which broke the previous record of 18 that was set against UC Santa Barbara May 25, 2012. As a team, the 'Runners had 35 totals bases which is a new school mark (the old record of 34 was set against UC Santa Barbara May 25, 2010).
CSUB would outhit the Bears (7-39, 1-19 WAC) 21-8. The 21 hits are the second most in a game by a Roadrunner squad. The school record is 22 which was set against Fresno State Apr. 7, 2009.
