MESA, Ariz.-- Soloman Williams (Jr., Long Beach, Calif., Golden West College) RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth scored Oscar Sanay (Sr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) capped off a Bakersfield (25-31) comeback and gave the Roadrunners a 6-5 victory over Seattle U (26-26) in the first game of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament Wednesday at Cubs Park.

Brian Olson's RBI double in the top of the first broke the seal for the Redhawks. Seattle U added one more in the fourth on a Colin Peterson sac fly which scored Cullen Hendrickson. Williams drove in David Metzgar (Fr., Lancaster, Calif., Paraclete HS) with a sac fly to get the 'Runners on the board in the bottom of the fourth.

An Austin Davis (R-So., Scottsdale, Ariz., Desert Mountain HS) wild pitch and a Cash McGuire sacrifice fly gave Seattle U two runs in the top of the fifth for a 4-1 Redhawks' advantage. The Roadrunners responded with the consecutive singles  to start the bottom of the fifth to bring up Williams with the bases loaded. Williams' sac fly scored Sanay but Metzgar was thrown out at third attempting to advance.

Chance Gusbeth (So., Lancaster, Calif., Desert Christian HS) singled to center to drive in Mylz Jones (So., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) to draw CSUB to within one. Max Carter (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) struck out looking against Acker to end the sixth.

Garrett Pierce (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Centennial HS) reached on an error to begin the 'Runner seventh. Ross Hough (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Central Arizona College) moved Pierce to second on a sacrifice bunt for Jordie Hein (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz., Chapparal HS). A Hein fly ball looked to get down in right, but the Redhawks' Landon Cray made a diving catch to keep the 'Runners at bay. Garrett Anderson relieved Acker to face Sanay who flew out to right for the third time in the game and end the inning.

Chase Field's safety squeeze with runners on the corners and one out in the top of the eighth scored a run and gave the Redhawks a two-run cushion. Metzgar opened the CSUB eighth with his third hit of the day. Jones' third hit of the day pushed Metzgar to third. Williams just missed a home run, doubling to the wall in right, to score Metzgar. Gusbeth singled to right to drive in Jones and tie the score at five.

Carter attempted a safety squeeze, but Williams was thrown out, but Gusbeth advanced all the way to third while Carter moved to second. Pierce lined out to Anderson. Skylar Genger, a right-hander, relieved the lefty Anderson to face the right-handed hitting Hough. Genger struck out Hough for the final out.

With one out in the ninth, Brock Carpenter walked. Hendrickson struck out looking which brought up Eric Koenig, who entered the game in the eighth. In only his 27th at-bat of the year, Koenig popped out to third. Hein led off the ninth by fouling out to first. Sanay, the 'Runners leadoff hitter, singled to right. Metzgar struck out. Sanay stole second before Jones walked to set up Williams' game winning hit.

Williams was 3-for-3 with four RBI's. Jones extended his hitting streak to 20 with a single in the fourth. Jones now has the longest (21) and second longest (20) hitting streaks in Bakersfield history. Gusbeth was 2-for-4 with two RBI's. Sanay went 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

The Roadrunners play in the winner's bracket Thursday night against an opponent to be determined at 7 p.m.
