BELLEVUE, Wash.--Seattle U (25-24, 13-10 WAC) clinched the Western Athletic Conference baseball series against Bakersfield (23-31, 14-12 WAC) Friday night when the Redhawks defeated the Roadrunners 8-5.

Seven consecutive Seattle U hits with two outs in the bottom of the second resulted in five Redhawks' runs. If it wasn't for Garrett Pierce (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Centennial HS) recording the 'Runners' 23rd outfield assist of the year (the most in Division I)  to get the final out of the frame at home, the Seattle U inning would have continued. 

David Metzgar (Fr., Lancaster, Calif., Paraclete HS) got the Roadrunners on the board with an RBI single in the the top of the third. CSUB scored on an error that was committed in the field during Metzgar's hit for a second tally. Mylz Jones (So., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) extended his hitting streak to 18 with an RBI single later in the third to plate Metzgar and get the 'Runners to within two.

A Cash McGuire home run gave the Redhawks a 6-3 advantage in the fourth. Seattle U added two more in the sixth. RBI singles from Logan Trowbridge (Jr., Santa Cruz, Calif., College of San Mateo) and Max Carter (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) in the top of the eight cut into the SU lead.

Metzgar, Pierce, Carter and Oscar Sanay (Sr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) combined for eight of the 12 Bakersfield hits (two each). McGuire paced Seattle by going 2-for-3 with his home run, two RBI's and two runs scored. Chase Fields was 2-for-4 with two RBI's.

The regular season concludes Saturday with first pitch coming at 12 p.m.
