Box Score BELLEVUE, Wash.--Seattle U starter Mac Acker struck out 10 Bakersfield (23-30, 14-11 WAC) batters as the Redhawks (24-24, 12-10 WAC) defeated the Roadrunners 4-2 Thursday night.
The Redhawks loaded the bases with one out and scored the first run on a game when Taylor Aikenhead (Sr., Lancaster, Calif., Bakersfield College) walked Sam Finfer. Cash McGuire followed with a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 Seattle U lead. A Landon Cray bunt single in the fifth plated Chase Fields for a three-run Redhawks' advantage.
Mylz Jones (So., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) extended his hitting streak to 17 when he smacked a two-run home run with two outs in the in the top of the sixth. Soloman Williams (Jr., Long Beach, Calif., Calif., Golden West College) followed Jones with a single and stole second. He attempted to tie the score when Chance Gusbeth (So., Lancaster, Calif., Desert Christian HS) singled, but he was thrown out at home by Fields, the Seattle U centerfielder. The Redhawks scored a run on an Aikenhead balk with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth.
Acker allowed six hits in his six innings of work before giving way to Garrett Anderson in the seventh. Anderson earned the save, pitching the final three innings, giving up two CSUB hits and adding a strikeout.
Williams reached base for the 17th consecutive game with a single in the second. He ended the day 2-for-3. David Metzgar (Fr., Lancaster, Calif., Paraclete HS) and Gusbeth both posted two hits.
The series continues Friday with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
