Box Score PORTLAND, Ore.--Portland defeated Bakersfield 1-0 in baseball action Saturday afternoon. Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed until Sunday due to rain.
The Roadrunners (6-8) were no-hit over the first five innings by Pilots' pitcher Kurt Yinger until Soloman Williams (Jr., Long Beach, Calif., Golden West College) smacked a double to lead off the sixth.
With the score 0-0, Ross Hough (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Central Arizona College) opened the ninth with a double. Allen Gwynn (R-Sr., Santa Paula, Calif., Ventura College) entered the game as a pinch-hitter for David Metzgar (Fr., Lancaster, Calif., Paraclete). Yinger was relieved by Brandon Snyder to face Gwynn. Gwynn grounded out Snyder and failed to advance the runner.
Jordie Hein (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz., Chapparal HS) flew out to left which brought up Oscar Sanay (Sr.,. Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS). Colin Feldman relieved Snyder for the matchup against 'the Runner All-American, who flew out to center on Feldman's first pitch.
After striking out the first two Portland batters in the bottom of the ninth. Bakersfield starter Austin Davis (R-So., Scottsdale, Ariz., Desert Mountain HS), hit a batter and walked the next three including Michael Lucarelli who was credited with the gamewinning RBI.
Yinger struck out 11 and did not walk a batter. Davis scattered five hits over his 8.2 innings.
Weather permitting, the series concludes at 1 p.m. in Portland.
