Box Score BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—Jeff Campbell tossed a complete game for North Dakota as UND (2-12, 2-3 WAC) defeated Bakersfield (10-11, 3-2 WAC) 6-3 Sunday afternoon at Hardt Field.
Campbell, retired at least eight 'Runner batters in a row on two different occasions. He struck out three and did not walk a batter. The North Dakota cleanup hitter, Campbell, went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
A two-out Oscar Sanay (Sr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) at shortstop in the top of the fourth led to three North Dakota runs. An error by the Bakersfield second baseman, David Metzgar (Fr., Lancaster, Calif., Paraclete HS) on an apparent double play in the top of the sixth kept the inning alive and led to two runs. North Dakota added one more in the top of the eighth.
Campbell shutout the Roadrunners over the first eight innings. Mylz Jones (So., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) tripled to open the ninth and scored on a Garrett Pierce (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Centennial HS) single. With one out, Sanay tripled in Pierce. Allen Gwynn (R-Sr., Santa Paula, Calif., Ventura College) singled to right to plate Sanay to make it 6-3. Logan Trowbridge (Jr., Santa Cruz, Calif., College of San Mateo) struck out before Ryan Grotjohn (Fr., Brophy College Prep) grounded out to second to end the game. CSUB would outhit North Dakota 9-8.
Luis Calvo and Dalton Parrott each had two hits for UND. Jones posted three hits for the Roadrunners. CSUB pitcher Austin Davis (R-So., Scottsdale, Ariz., Desert Mountain HS) fell to 1-4 on the year despite only giving up one earned run in six innings. Only two of the six North Dakota runs ended up being earned.
The Roadrunners host UC Irvine Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
