BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The Bakersfield men's soccer team travels to defending national champion Indiana and No. 16 Louisville this weekend.
The match at Indiana is set for Friday night at 8 p.m. (EDT) before the Roadrunners head to Louisville Sunday at 5 p.m. (EDT). This will be the first time the Roadrunners play either the Hoosiers or the Cardinals in men's soccer.
Indiana is off to a 1-3 start. All three of the IU's losses have come in a row and have occurred in overtime, most recently Sunday night at West Virginia. The Hoosiers are ranked 14th in the CollegeSportsMadness.com Top 25, 20th in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 25, and 21st in the Soccer Times Top 25 this week.
The Cardinals are 2-1 entering a Friday night match at home against UC Irvine. The lone Louisville loss was 1-0 to Butler last Saturday night. Louisville is ranked eighth in the TopDrawerSoccer.com, 11th in the Soccer Times Top 25, 15th in the College Soccer News Top 30, 16th in the Continental Tire/NSCAA Top 25, 19th in the College Sports Madness Top 25, and 20th in the Soccer America Top 25 this week.
Bakersfield goalkeeper Anthony Perez (R-So., Fontana, Calif., Bloomington HS) was named Western Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 9. Perez posted back-to-back shutouts as the Roadrunners defeated Sacramento State, 3-0, on Friday and UC Davis, 2-0, on Sunday to win the Copa De Causeway Tournament. Perez turned away penalty kicks in both matches and made four saves against the Hornets and six saves against the Aggies.
