BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Bakersfield women's soccer coach Melissa Phillips has announced the addition of four players for the 2013 recruiting class.
Alex Bachman joins the Roadrunners from Cypress (Calif.) High School. Bachman was named first team All-League and second team All-League during career. She was selected the 2013 team MVP and 2013 school Athlete of the Year...Her team won an Empire League championship in 2011. On the club level, she played for the AYSO 154 for eight years and for six on the beach.
"Alex is an incredibly smart player who is defensive minded but has the ability to thread balls in behind," Phillips said. "She can make an impact in numerous postions and her versatility will be an added bonus to our lineup."
Liv Borkenstein transfers to Bakersfield from the University of Memphis where she will have three years of eligiblity remaining. She did not compete in 2012. As a true freshman in 2011, she appeared in six matches, starting two for the Tigers as a defender. A 2011 graduate of R. Nelson Snider High School, she was a two-time first team All-State selection. She competed for the Fort Wayne Fever Academy club team and made it to the 2007 Olympic Development National Championship. Borkenstein also played for the Indiana ODP squad in 2007 and participated in the ODP National camp in Florida.
"Liv is a tough player with a championship mentality," said Phillips. "She can play anywhere in the backline or as a holding midfielder. Her tenacity and eagarness to get back into the college game will be great qualities to add to our current team."
Anita Maryskova comes to Bakersfield from Liberec, Czech Republic and the Obchondi Academy. Her team was part of Masters of highest Czech League in 2006-07 and 2007-08. The team won first round of qualification for the European Championship with the Czech U-19 women's national team.
"Anita is a technically gifted midfielder with a high soccer IQ," Phillips commented. "She is creative on the ball and plays with an incredible intensity. Her experience with both her club in Germany and the Czech U-19 National team will allow her to add an edge to our midfield. Her desire to learn is appreciated and will help her be successful here."
Caroline Muoio joins the 'Runners from Carlsbad High School. She was named first team All-League as a senior and second team All-League as a sophomore. Carlsbad High School won league championships in 2012 and 2013. The team earned CIF SDS Division I Championship in 2013.
"Caroline is a very smart attacking player," said Phillips. "She is technically good in tight spaces and has a superb ability to play a different weighted balls to develop the attack. Her vision for the game is on another level and she continuously puts herself in situations to score goals."
With these signings, CSUB will have a total of eight newcomers in addition to two 2012 redshirts beginning play for the first time in 2013. The Roadrunners open their first season in Western Athletic Conference in August.
