BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—Cal State Northridge (18-15) defeated CSU Bakersfield (21-13) 8-5 Wednesday night at Hardt Field.
CSUB got on the board in the bottom of the second when Jordie Hein (So., Scottsdale, Ariz., Chapparal HS) walked with the bases loaded. Oscar Sanay's (Jr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) sac fly made it 2-0 later in the frame.
The Matadors scored for the first time in the fourth on a CSUB wild pitch. Northridge took the lead in the top of the seventh with RBI's from pinch hitters Anthony Lombardo and William Colantono.
The Matadors took advantage of two CSUB errors in the eighth to score four unearned runs and put the game away. Cal State Northridge added one run in the ninth.
Sanay's triple in the bottom of the ninth drove in two runs for the Roadrunners. Bakersfield made it the final 8-5 when Sanay came home on a Northridge wild pitch later in the ninth.
Sanay led CSUB as he went 2-for-3 with three RBI's. Lombardo was 2-for-2 with two RBI's after entering the game. Colantono also drove in two runs.
The Roadrunners open a WAC series against UTSA Friday night at 6 p.m.
