Jones Ties Record As 'Runners Lose 5-4 To NM State

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Freshman Mylz Jones (Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) tied the CSUB school record for longest hitting streak in a season, but New Mexico State (15-14, 2-4 WAC) rallied late to defeat the Roadrunners (19-9, 4-2 WAC) 5-4 Saturday afternoon.

Jones extended his hitting streak to 19 with an infield single in the fourth inning. Jeremy Rodriguez recorded a 19-game hitting steak during the 2010 season. With the game tied at one, the Roadrunners scored three time in the bottom of the seventh, but the Aggies tied the score in the top of the eighth on a Parker Hipp three-run home run.

Tanner Rust drove in the gamewinning run with an RBI single off in the top of the ninth. CSUB had the tying run on first with no outs in the bottom half of the inning, but the fourth pitcher of the game for New Mexico State, Christopher Bradley retired the next three CSUB batters in order for the victory.

Rust was 3-for-5 while Hipp and Robert Lecount added two hits. Jones went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Oscar Sanay (Jr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) was also 2-for-3 and he had two RBI's. Jordie Hein (So., Scottsdale, Ariz., Chapparal HS) went 2-for-4.

Bakersfield is back in action Monday when the Roadrunners travel to Cal State Northidge for a 3 p.m. contest.
