3 CSUB Wrestlers Make FILA Jr. World Team Trials

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Three CSU Bakersfield wrestlers have qualified for the May 25-26 FILA Junior World Team Trials after competitng at the FILA Junior Nationals this past weekend.

Fabian Garcia, a freshman who attended CSUB this past year, but did not compete as he concentrated on academics, turned in the top Roadrunners' performance. Garcia, a Livingston, Calif. native, was third at 60KG. Garcia defeated the University of Pittsburgh's Shelton Mack during the junior nationals. Mack, placed in the top 12 at the 2012 NCAA Division I Championships at 133 pounds.

Adam Fierro (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS), the Roadrunners' 165-pounder, placed fifth at 70KG to earn his spot in the Fila Junior World Team Trials.

Bryce Hammond (Fr., 174, Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS), who redshirted this past season at CSUB, was seventh at 79KG.

Two other Roadrunner wrestlers competed at the Fila Junior Nationals. David Meza (Fr., 157, Fullerton, Calif., Buena Park HS) who sat out 2011-12 as a redshirt, posted a 2-2 tournament record at 70KG. Ian Nickell (Fr., 125, Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS), a 2011-12 redshirt, was 0-2 at 60KG.

The 2012 FILA Junior World Team Trials will be held at Palmer High School in Colorado Springs, Colo. Winners will compete in the 2012 FILA Junior World Championships held in Pattaya, Thailand, on Sept. 4-9.
