NORTHRIDGE, Calif.--Cal State Northridge scored the game winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat CSU Bakersfield 4-3 Tuesday afternoon at Matador Field.
The Matadors opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Miles Williams hit a three-run home run. Kevin Younger (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) hit his first career home run in the second to get the Roadrunners on the scoreboard.
Oscar Sanay (So., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) cut the lead to 3-2 with an RBI ground out in the fifth. The Roadrunners pushed the tying run across in the top of the ninth with
two outs when Tyler Shryock (So., Tehachapi, Calif., Desert Christian HS) singled home Jordie Hein (Fr., Scottsdale, Ariz., Chaparal HS), who had doubled earlier in the
inning
Steven Keller doubled to left field to open the bottom of the ninth. Nathan Ring
hit an infield single to third to put two runners on with no outs. Pinch runner Chester Pak
and Ring then stole third and second, respectively, on a swinging third
strike to get into scoring position with two outs.
Ryan Raslowsky ended the game on a full-count pitch by hitting a grounder
to Shryock, CSUB's shortstop, who went to field the ball and had it bounce off
his chest and his throw to first was not in time as Pak scored from
third for the winning run.
Shryock had three hits while Hein posted two hits and two runs scored. J.P. Maestas (R-Jr., Nipomo, Calif., Allan Hancock College) also had two hits.
CSUB travels to UC Riverside for a three-game series beginning Friday night at 6 p.m.
