BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Sacramento State's Tanner Mendonca limited CSU Bakersfield to five hits as the Hornets (14-13) defeated the Roadrunners (9-15) 2-0 Friday night at Hardt Field.

The 6-4 righty struck out seven while only walking one as he threw 125 pitches. Sacramento State received RBI's from Will Soto in the first and the seventh for the game's only scoring. Soto had two of the eight Hornets' hits.

The Roadrunners stranded six runners on base, five of which were in scoring position.  Four times Mendonca saw CSUB runners on the bases as the tying run, but he pitched of the threats.

Jeff McKenzie (Jr., El Dorado Hills, Calif., San Joaquin Delta College) was the losing pitcher for the Roadrunners. McKenzie went the distance for CSUB, scattering seven hits.

The series continues Saturday night at 6 p.m.
