MONTEREY
PARK, Calif.-Mitchell Huxhold (Fr., Escondido, Calif., San Pasqual HS) won the

College. Huxhold broke the CSUB school
record in the event by swimming a time of 15:09.07 with his 1000 split time
(9:08.09) being the third quickest in CSUB history. His time was a NCAA “B” Cut as well. Teammate
Gabriel Bertrand (Fr. Tibro, Sweden, Nykopingssimg Gymnasium) was fourth
(15:33.94) in the race.
CSUB
finished fifth in the team scoring race (463.5) as league newcomer BYU (625)
won the title.

200 backstroke (1:48.01). Chris Pipes (Sr., Fresno, Calif., Merced College)
finished fifth in the 100 free (:44.92). Jake Priest (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.,
Palo Verde HS) placed seventh in the 200 breaststroke (2:01.97).
Also scoring for the Roadrunners on the final night of the
championships was Mitch Wurm (Jr., Mesa, Ariz., Dobson HS) in the 100 free (12th),
Troy Neklason (Fr., Seattle, Wash., Aviaton HS) in platform diving (12th), Mark
Silvius (R-Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) in the 100 free (14th), Brian
Martinez (So., Las Vegas, Nev., Arbor View HS) in the 200 breaststroke (15th),
and Dan Wickensheimer (Jr., Fort Wayne, Ind., Bakersfield Stockdale HS) in the
200 butterfly (16th).
The final relay of the competition saw the 400 freestyle team
of Pipes, Wurm, Daneke, and Silvius post a NCAA “B” Cut time of 2:59.77 to come
home fifth.
“The MPSF's
are one of the fastest conference championships in all of Division I swimming,”
said CSUB director of swimming Chris Hansen. “To battle and come this close to
three top 25 teams is impressive. If you
take diving scores out we would have been third. We need to step up our diving program and
recruit harder now that we are among these great teams. We rewrote the CSUB record board this
weekend. I am super pumped. Mitchell Huxhold, Jake Priest, Gabriel
Bertrand and Alex Daneke really impressed me this weekend with the amount of
swims they had to do. Next up is Olympic
Trials.”
