PHOENIX, Ariz.--CSU Bakersfield split a pair of wrestling duals Saturday at Grand Canyon University.
The Roadrunners dropped the opener, 29-10, to Arizona State in the PAC-12 opener for both schools. Tyler Iwamura (R-Sr., 125, San Diego, Calif., Santa Fe Christian HS), Ian Nickell (R-Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS), and Timmy Box (R-Fr., 141 Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) earned the CSUB victories.
The Roadrunners earned a 25-10 victory over the host Lopers. Grand Canyon is ranked No. 5 in the current Division II Top 20 poll. Winning for CSUB were Box (141), Jake Briggs (R-So., 149, Fair Oaks, Calif., Boise State), Adam Fierro (So., 157, Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS), David Meza (R-Fr., 165, Fullerton, Calif., Buena Park HS), Andrew Balch (R-Sr., 174, Clovis, Calif., Buchanan HS), Iwamura (125), and Nickell (133).
Iwamura (9-0), and Box (8-0) remain undefeated on the year. Nickell is now 11-1.
CSUB travels to the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational Nov. 30-Dec. 1 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
