HONOLULU, Hawaii - Freshman
opposite hitter Kelsee Sawyer (Temecula, Calif., Great Oak HS) posted 14 kills,
three aces and three digs and sophomore middle blocker Molly O'Hagan tied her season-high with 12 kills to help lift the CSU Bakersfield volleyball team over
Chaminade 3-1 (25-18, 25-17, 21-25, 25-21) late Friday night to end its Hawaii
trip with a win.
O'Hagan also added three assisted
blocks and two digs. Junior setter Fernanda Gonçalves (Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.) had 36
assists, six digs, four kills and three assisted blocks. Yuan Fu (Jr., Beijing, China, Missouri State-West
Plains) had one solo block and three assisted blocks, while Julia Bowen (Jr.,
Ottawa, Ontario, Wilfried Laurer Univ.) added four assisted blocks. Red-shirt
sophomore libero Mariah Alvidrez (Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) scooped up 12 digs for CSUB.
The 'Runners (13-16) had an
efficient attacking game as the team had a .246 attacking percentage compared
to Chaminade's .218. CSUB got off to a good start by going on a 7-1 run to take
a 10-3 lead in the first set and never looked back on the way to taking a 1-0
lead in the match. The second set started off closer, but CSUB still had a
16-15 lead midway through the match before the 'Runners rattled off a 5-0 rally
en route to clinching the second set. Chaminade (7-16) bounced back to win the
third set before the 'Runners regained momentum in the final set. CSUB used
another mid-set rally in the fourth frame, going on a 6-0 run to take a 18-11
lead and cruise to the match victory.
CSUB will now head to
New Mexico (19-9) for a showdown on Sunday at 1 p.m. (MDT). Live streaming of the

The Roadrunners will
then wrap up the 2012 season with a match at San Jose State on Tuesday at 7
p.m.
