CSUB Gets Their First Big West Victory at Home

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield got their second Big West conference win of the 2025 season at the Icardo with a strong victory over UC San Diego. (26-24, 17-25, 25-18, 25-16). This is Bakersfield’s first win against UC San Diego since joining the Big West.

The Roadrunners took the first set of the match which was vital in this match. Set 1 proved to be a true back and forth affair with both teams trading waves of momentum. The trio of Suelen Lima, Druegan Davis, and Nicole Zake combined for 15 kills which was crucial in getting CSUB the first set.

In Set 2, UC San Diego started off quick making the Roadrunners have to battle back in order to win the set. They unfortunately could not as the Tritons ended the set.

Bakersfield was able to bounce back and get the third set. This set was the closest of as there were 10 times where the score was tied. CSUB however did not give the lead to the Tritons and held on to take the set. Luiza Da Cruz tallied 13 assists in this set being a key part in this set.

The `Runners put a bow on this game controlling the fourth set. Nicole Zake made a huge impact in this set as she got three straight kills giving CSUB a cushion in their lead. The `Runners secured the win with an error from UCSD.

With this win CSUB improves their record to 5-16 and 2-7 in the Big West. This is a big win for the Roadrunners as they go into the late stretch of their season.
