CSUB Sweeps Sacramento State

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-CSU Bakersfield (17-33, 5-13 PCSC) swept Sacramento State (18-24, 10-8 PCSC) in a PCSC doubleheader May 7 at the Roadrunner Softball Complex.

CSUB won the opener 6-5. Jazmine Lee's (Fr., Garden Grove, Calif., Los Alamitos HS) three-run home run (her seventh of the season) in the bottom of the first broke the seal for the Roadrunners. Laura King (So., Camarillo, Calif., UNLV) added an RBI single later in the first. CSUB added to the lead in the third when Tera Macias (Jr., Los Baños, Calif., San Jose CC) smacked her second home run of the year and Myshayla Fryer (Fr., San Diego, Calif., University HS) posted an RBI single.

The Hornets scored one run in the fourth. Sacramento State drew to within one, 6-5 in the seventh when pinch hitter Jillian Canete hit a three run home run with one out. Roadrunner pitcher Sarah Hoag (Fr., Salinas, Calif., Monterey HS) retired Emily McCormick and Marissa Navarro, the Hornets' No. 3 and No. 4 hitters for the Roadrunners' victory. Macias and King both posted two hits. Hoag earned the complete game victory.

The Roadrunners came from behind to win the nightcap 4-2. Sacramento State took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Lee's single moved King to third and she took second on throw. Amy Ricciardi's (Fr., Chino Hills, Calif., Ayala HS) reached on a fielder's choice to score King. Ryane Petersen (Sr., Fresno, Calif., Fresno State) homered to left center for the gamewinning runs.

Lee was 2-for-3. Alyssa Walker (Jr., San Jose, Calif., San Jose CC) went the distance. Walker struck out one and did not walk a batter.

CSU Bakersfield concludes the 2011 season Sunday with a doubleheader against Sacramento State beginning at 12 p.m.
