CSUB Splits Doubleheader With Cal State Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif.-CSUB (7-17) split a softball doubleheader with Cal State Fullerton (11-15) Mar. 27 at Anderson Field.

The Titans defeated the Roadrunners 1-0 in the first game. A Latisha Dedeau single in the bottom of the second drove home Nicole Johnson for the game's lone run. CSUB put the tying run on first with one out in the seventh when Amy Ricciardi (Fr., Chino Hills, Calif., Ayala HS) singled. Fullerton pitcher Ari Cervantes struck out Emily Bliss (So., Northridge, Calif., Chaminade Prep) for the second out. Stefanie Frei (Sr., Valencia, Calif., Canyon HS) grounded out to second for the final out of the game. Cervantes and CSUB pitcher Sammy Rodriguez (Jr.,, Salinas, Calif., Salinas HS) each allowed four hits. Rodriguez struck out five and did not walk a batter.

The Roadrunners won the second game 6-2 in nine innings. Tera Macias (Jr., Los Baños, Calif., San Jose CC) plated Bliss in the top of the second to give CSUB an early lead. Cal State Fullerton scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Myshayla Fryer (Fr., San Diego, Calif., University HS) scored on a Titan error in the top of the seventh to tie the score.

The Roadrunners broke the tie in the top of the ninth with four runs. With no outs, Karissa Veiga (Fr., San Diego, Calif., University HS) tripled to clear the bases for CSUB lead. Veiga later scored on a Jamie Miller (Sr., Livermore, Calif., Ohlone College). The Titans loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs, Roadrunner pitcher Sarah Hoag (Fr., Salinas, Calif., Monterey HS) got Adrian Martinez to pop out to third to end the game. Macias and Ricciardi both posted two hits. Hoag went the distance in the circle, scattering nine hits.

CSUB is back in action next weekend when the Roadrunners host South Dakota four a four-game series Apr. 2-3.
