LOS ANGELES, Calif.—USC
defeated CSU Bakersfield 150-101 in a men's swimming dual Saturday at the
McDonald's Swim Stadium.
The dual, which was comprised of 16 swimming events, saw the
Roadrunners win the three races of the day. Alex Daneke (Jr., Lodi,
Calif., Lodi HS) led a 1-2-3-4 sweep in the
100 butterfly as he defeated teammate Alex Brown (So., Reno,
Nev., Lake Erie College)
by 4/10's of a second. Daneke swam a time of :52.09
Garrett Hubbard (So., Granada Hills,
Calif., Bishop Alemany HS) earned first place
in the 400 IM (4:17.36) beating teammate Jake Priest (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.,
Palo Verde HS) by almost eight seconds in the event.
The 200 free relay of Chris Pipes (Sr., Fresno,
Calif., Merced
College), Peter Bardessono (Sr.
Elverta, Calif., American River
College), Mitch Wurm (Jr.
Mesa, Ariz., Dobson HS), and Daneke took home first place in a time of 1:25.03.
Other CSUB top finishes included Pipes placing second in the
50 free (:21.44) and third in the 100 free (:46.37).
Daneke was second in the 200 back (1:55.75) and sixth in the
200 free (1:45.19).
"I have taken a very young Division I team and in the past two weeks put them up against some of the best swimmers in the world," said CSU Bakersfield director of swimming Chris Hansen. "This team has to believe they belong there, once this happens we are going to have a great time swimming over everyone."
CSUB hosts its first home meet of the season next Saturday
when the Roadrunners host Pacific in a men's dual. CSUB's women's swim program opens the 2011-12
season next Saturday at the Hillman
Aquatics Center
when the Roadunners also host Pacific. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
