SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose State women's soccer team got goals either side of the interval from Kelsey Lord before withstanding late pressure from CSUB to hand the Roadrunners a 2–1 setback Sunday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.
Ventura College transfer Jessica Fogeltanz scored her first NCAA goal in the 82nd minute to keep CSUB hopes alive. Fogeltanz's shot concluded several minutes of sustained pressure by the 'Runners, who earned three corners in the four minutes immediately preceding the goal. But her strike proved to be the last shot CSUB would take in the match.
Thanks to a 6–2 advantage in the second half, CSUB out–shot the Spartans 9–7 Sunday. Junior Kym Gause (Manteca/Modesto JC) made four saves for the 'Runners, all in the first half.
CSUB returns to action Friday, Sept. 10 with a match at Big West Conference rival UC Davis. It will be the second match of a five–match road trip. The 'Runners return home to the Main Soccer Field to host Pepperdine on Oct. 3.
