TUCSON,
Ariz. – Junior middle
blocker Alysia Baker (Vista/Tri–City
Christian HS) and sophomore libero Lauren
Holderman (Bakersfield HS) earned all–tournament honors as the CSUB
volleyball team concluded play at the Wildcat Classic with a 25–13, 25–18,
25–16 loss to host and 24th ranked Arizona Saturday afternoon at the
McKale Center.
Baker
led CSUB with nine blocks in the three matches at the tournament. Holderman
picked up her award despite playing less than two full matches after injuring
her shoulder midway through Friday night's encounter with Butler.
Saturday,
the nationally–ranked Wildcats started red hot, collecting 17 kills against
just one error in the first set to jump to the early lead. The Roadrunners kept
things close in the final two sets, leading 11–10 in the second and trailing
just 11–9 midway through the third. But a 7–1 spurt put the Wildcats on top in
the second before a 7–2 spurt gave them control in the third.
CSUB
finally returns to the friendly confines of the Icardo Center for its 2010 home
opener, but the road home won't be an easy one as 14th–ranked UCLA
makes its first regular season appearance in Bakersfield Thursday night, Sept.
9.
