Nine Home Games for Women?s Soccer in 2010

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Two 2009 NCAA Tournament qualifying opponents and nine home contests highlight the CSUB women's soccer 2010 schedule, which was released Wednesday by Head Coach Nicole Van Dyke. This will be the fourth year the 'Runners will play a full NCAA Division I schedule and is their first as a postseason eligible participant.

The season slate includes five members from the Big West Conference, four from the Western Athletic (WAC) and West Coast (WCC) conferences and two from the Big Sky Conference.

“We are anticipating a large amount of success with our 2010 season,” comments Van Dyke. “It may sound bold, but we belive we have the talent, the experience and the necessary leadership to get positive results. With 18 returners, our goals are well within reach.”

Cal State Fullerton visits to begin the season on Friday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m. After that, CSUB will face 2009 NCAA qualifier and Big West Conference champion UC Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara on Sunday, Aug. 22. at 7 p.m.

The Roadrunners return home for three games against Eastern Washington (Aug. 27; 7 p.m.), Loyola Marymount (Aug. 29; 7 p.m.) and St. Martin's (Sept. 3; 5 p.m.) before heading on a month–long roadtrip.

CSUB travels to face WAC regular–season champion San Jose State on Sept. 5. After a weekend series at UC Davis (Sept. 10) and Saint Mary's College (Sept. 12), the Roadrunners travel to take on their second 2009 NCAA selection in the Univesity of San Diego on Sept. 17. Last season, CSUB stunned the then–No. 13 Torreros with a 2–1 victory and received the program's first NSCAA West Region team ranking.

The last weekend of September has the 'Runners playing in the Seattle University Tournament where they will take on Sacramento State on Sept. 24 and Idaho on Sept. 26.

CSUB returns home on Oct. 3 to host Pepperdine at 7 p.m. Fresno State comes to town on Oct. 7 for a 7 p.m. showdown for the Valley Cup which has changed hands twice in the past two seasons. On Oct. 12, WAC member Hawaii visits for a 7 p.m. contest.

The 'Runners will head to Omaha, Neb., on Oct. 16 to take on the Missouri Valley Conference runner–up Creighton at 11 a.m. (PST). The Bluejays finished last season 13–6–2 and were a stellar 8–2–2 at home in 2009.

The final two home games of the year will feature Cal State Northridge on Oct. 21 and Seattle Univeristy on Oct. 29. Both games begin at 7 p.m. Cal State Northridge was the No. 2 seed in the Big West Tournament in 2009. The 2010 slate concludes with a Halloween date at defending BWC regular–season champion Cal Poly at 1 p.m.

“With so many familiar faces on our schedule we know what to expect from our opponents,” says Van Dyke. “I'm particularly excited about bringing the Valley Cup back to Bakersfield as well as the continued rivalry between us and Cal Poly.”
