BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Jason Kudlock extended his school record hit streak to 17 consecutive games, Jeremy Rodriguez kept pace at 16 straight and the Roadrunner baseball team dominated visiting Loyola Marymount in a 13-3 final Tuesday at Hardt Field.
After a fly out in his first at bat and reaching on an error his second time at the plate, Kudlock lofted a hit into right field in the fourth that caught the wind and landed shallow of the Lions' Evan Simonitsch for a base hit. That broke Brandon Boren's CSUB record 16-game hit streak, set earlier this season.
Two batters earlier, Rodriguez collected his first hit of the game, a two-run home run over the right field fence, extending his one hit streak to 16 games.
The Roadrunners (18-20) went scoreless in the first inning against LMU starter Jason Wheeler, but got rolling after than, piling on three runs in the second, three in the third, five in the fourth and two in the fifth.
A Joey Mills two-run double to center and a Boren RBI-ground out gave the Roadrunners a 3-0 lead, one they would never relinquish.
In the third, Kudlock scored on a throwing error by Wheeler after Kevin Younger reached in a single. Kyle Richardson added a two-run home run to make it 6-0.
Rodriguez's two-run shot, along with RBI hits by Younger and Derek Geisinger aided a five-run fifth inning. Bakersfield added two more in the fifth on a pair of sacrifice flies.
Two hits and a sacrifice fly put the Lions on the board in the top of the sixth. They added two more runs in the ninth on three hits and two fielding errors by Bakersfield.
Martin Medina (4-1) went three complete innings for the Roadrunners, was the pitcher of record on the designated staff day. He fanned three, walked one and allowed just one hit.
Jonathan Montoya tossed 5.1 innings of relief, striking out five while giving up three walks and six hits for three runs. Spenser Messmore recorded the final two outs for CSUB.
Wheeler (1-2) took the loss for LMU, giving up six hits for five earned runs in 2.1 innings.
